Original Sprout - Safe and Eco-Friendly Hair and Bath Products for Babies and Up!

When it comes to bath and body products, I'm sure we parents can all agree that we want to use the safest products on our kids which are gentle to their skin and yet get the cleaning job done.

Recently I was introduced to Original Sprout - a 100% vegan hair and bath product line suitable for babies and up!

Original Sprout which has celeb following from Kate Hudson, Brooke Shields and Tori Spelling, was founded by Inga Tritt who had years of experience as master stylist. With the birth of her daughter Maya, Inga wanted to have a hair care product that could cater to her newborn's thick hair and which was safe for her daughter's sensitive skin. A year after Maya's birth, Inga founded Original Sprout which carries a range of hair and body products including their leading product, The Miracle Detangler which is also a pioneer in the hair care market.

When the range of eco-friendly products arrived at our doorstep, I was thrilled to see that not only were the product paraben-free and sulphate-free, they also contained organic and natural ingredients.

Do note that while the Original Sprout range of products contain organic ingredients, they are not 100% organic certified. The good thing though is that the products are free from oestrogen disrupting ingredients and do not contain Lavender and Tea Tree oils, Clove, Musk or Phthalates which our kids or even us adults may be sensitive to.

Having tried out the Natural Shampoo and Deep Conditioner on Kaitlin's hair, I liked that both products left Kaitlin with a nice smelling scalp which didn't have an overpowering scent or leave her hair dry. Though hairdressers have previously advised that it's not good to keep washing our hair and that once a day is enough so as to prevent our hair turning dry, I still much rather prefer Kaitlin to have a clean scalp as she sweats easily. As such, we wash her hair at least twice a day, and sometimes go up to three times. We use the shampoo whenever we wash her hair and the conditioner once a day max, and this is enough to keep her hair moisturized. Also, I like that these two products were gentle on her eyes. Selecting hair products that are gentle to the eyes is an important factor to consider when choosing what shampoo or conditioner to get for the kids, especially the younger ones who may sometimes open their eyes midway while we're washing of the hair product.

I personally prefer to use separate products for Kaitlin's hair and body if we're showering her at home. However, if we were to head out and have some waterplay fun or having a staycation, I would bring a 2-in-1 wash as it means less things to carry! We haven't been out much recently due to the haze and so I decided to just try the Hair & Body Wash out on K at home. It does smell similar to the Natural Shampoo and being a 2-in-1 wash I didn't find that it was too harsh for K's sensitive skin. So far, no complains of itch or rashes!

As Kaitlin has very thin hair, her hair rarely gets tangled so I have never tried a detangler product before this. In case you're wondering, Original Sprout's Miracle Detangler is suitable for use on wet or dry hair.

Combing through K's hair was easy and and very little product was used which if you ask me is pretty value for it's money. I've also tried out the product on my hair and probably cos I've got more hair and also have some hair damage from previous dye jobs that there's a more significant difference of combing through it easily as compared to using on Kaitlin.

Kaitlin's favourite product from the range has got to be the Scrumptious Baby Cream cos she can apply it on her arms and legs by herself!  Kaitlin has sensitive skin, and sometimes will have eczema breakouts. To prevent that from happening we try to make sure her skin is always moisturized.

Now that 's a big girl, she likes to be independent and so I  just let her apply the baby cream on her own after her baths and before she goes to bed at night. We have tried moisturizers that have been labelled to be gentle to the sensitive skin, but didn't do a good job of leaving her skin moisturized and she would still feel itchy from time to time. There were also products that we tried that while were moisturizing were thick and left the skin feeling sticky. This is alright by us if we were using it on Kaitlin at night but during day times we would avoid it due to the crazy humid weather. The Original Sprouts Baby Cream though fits right in the middle of being a suitable mositurizer for sensitive skin and which doesn't leave a uncomfortable and sticky after feel.

Thus far, we're liking the Original Sprout range of products! The downside of Original Sprout products is that they cost more than most baby hair and body products out in the market. However, I personally would rather use safe and effective products on Kaitlin. Thus far, the products haven't caused Kaitlin to itch or have any eczema flares so that's great. Moreover, we like that the products have organic and natural ingredient which assures that Kaitlin's skin is exposed to safe ingredients and not nasty chemicals. We aren't particularly environmentally friendly, but we do try to do what we can to contribute to a safe and clean environment such as by recycling and I'm glad that we just found another way to contribute to the environment by using Original Sprout products that are bio-degradable and aren't tested on animals.

If you're thinking of trying Original Sprout's products, you can find them at Watsons, Motherswork and Kiddy Palace. Alternatively, if you prefer online shopping you can do so at Original Sprout's website or from their list of online retailers.
